HISHE Tribute: Make Your Monday Awesome

      So today is Monday, and Monday's are never the best, well I guess sometimes they can be, on the off chance that something awesome happens like we have a holiday or something, but usually Monday's aren't any fun and thus the need for humor in order to make Monday's become fun. YouTube is always a good choice, a few laughs here and there go a long way to making any day just a little brighter. Holy Reboot Batman!

     Let's be honest for a second, not all reboots are bad, we've had some horrible film making over the years and for a person to take a bad project and attempt to make it better is, even at some level, rather noble. Of course you know where I am going here though, there is a darker side, a money machine behind this reboot movement that has been re-making movies that are only a few years old, and though I cringe a little when I say this, for some of those movies I am applauding that they are.

The Good

The Amazing Spiderman (2012)

   
     Let's be honest, Spiderman 3 sucked, it was the worst superhero movie of all time, and though it's only been a few years I find myself being ok with this reboot. This movie looks legit though, we're talking it has a good cast, it follows the comics rather well it's directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer), and Emma Stone is in it. The Emma comment might seem random, but ask yourself this question, "of all the recent Emma movies which one has sucked?", so yeah, it's a good point. This movie brings back the web shooters and a promise of a job well done. Hopefully there will be no dance sequence or emo hair thoughout this movie, every time I remember Spiderman 3 I cringe a little.

Man Of Steel (2013)

      What! Another Superman remake?! Yup, and boy do we have high hopes for this one. Zack Snyder is directing it, should I say more? The cast they pulled together for this reboot is of epic proportions, what's going on here is that Snyder is attempting to do to Superman what Nolan did with Batman, and I think he has a real shot at succeeding. The movie cast is impressive but the script has not been released yet, meaning we don't know the main plot yet, so we can't make a good call on it. We can make jokes about how the actor that is going to play Superman is British, that took me by surprise, I lol'ed. Anyway, every Superman movie attempted so far has sucked, drastically, but I have faith in Snyder's work, after you do 300, The Watchmen, Sucker Punch, and Legend of the Guardians, I'll believe in any project Snyder is involved in, even Superman.

The Bad

Conan

      Argh, do I even need to say anything about this one? The first Conan was pretty bad, but it was Arnold's rise to fame, it came out in 1982, so yeah it's going to be pretty bad but they had a very good comic book following at the time. Believe it or not but Conan was a very popular comic around that time. Right now though, Conan is one of the neglected comic book series, it just doesn't relate to this generation well and thus has been left to the side. What boggles my mind is the fact that they knew this was the case and they decided to go through with this project anyway, the whole thing makes no sense and so, to no surprise, the movie flopped. Good riddance Hollywood.

The Incredible Hulk

      Let's be honest here, this movie was not good, it was better than it's predecessor by a lot, that is true, but it was not a "good" movie. There is only one reason why this movie could even be considered to be a decent flick and that is Edward Norton. I think the directors knew that, they knew that any project done with the Hulk would automatically flop, thus they sought to get an actor that is generally respected by most if not all and cast him as the green monster. A bold move really. The beginning of the movie is not half bad, but the more the story progresses the more you start to feel all the good feelings going away, and soon all that is left is this taste of muck in your mouth, where again you can't help but ask the question: "Was this the best you could do Hollywood?"

The Ugly


Dredd

Stallone, smh.....

      Judge Dredd is considered to be one the worst movies ever created, right there next to Waterworld. This was Stallone's baby, and boy did this movie just suck from beginning to end, but don't you worry, you thought the nightmare was over but Hollywood won't let this bad dream end, this series is set to reboot on 2012, replacing Stallone with Karl Urban, which is a solid move overall but still just the thought of this movie being made and being released makes me cringe. Can this movie be good you ask? Maybe, really a super far fetched maybe, the comic book was pretty good, but honestly it isn't a good adaptation to film comic book, though I will end up going to watch the movie when it comes out, I still am repulsed by the thought of it all.

    I think one movie in the "ugly" category is enough, the thought of digging deeper in that subject will cause me to cringe even more and maybe lose a little sanity. Let's leave it at that. Either way, there you have it, the reboots to look forward to, the reboots to avoid, and the reboots to run away from.

Comic Book's Rising Influence on TV And Why That's Awesome

        For the past few years we've seen a shift of interest from the people towards comic book movies. From Spiderman, to Superman we've had a large genre of movies based on comic books being made. It's astounding really, sometimes you'll be watching something and have no idea that it previously was a comic book as in the case of 300 or V: For Vendetta. Thus this week will be a highlight of the great moments we've been having and the worst moments as well. We'll begin by addressing the influence of comics on Television shows, so here we go:

The Walking Dead

     This is the most famous zombie related comic book, and though this show is not for everyone, this is a great show. AMC really stepped up their game when they took on this show. It astounds me though the amount of people that had no idea that this was previously a comic book, the comic book series has been going for years now. Again this is a horror show, so it's more for adults, this show is not for everyone, but don't fret, there are other great shows out there that deserve our attention.

Once Upon A Time

      Now this one is a tad different, what they did here is that they took a really good working comic book called Fables, and adapted the story a tad to much, there is still hope that they are doing a prequel to the comic series and that it might end up that way, but we shall see. This series is about to start on ABC and I recommend it, more because they have amazing writers working on this than anything else. I also recommend you pick up the comic book, this is a series that has won countless awards, almost every year they win an award, it's pretty ridiculous how awesome they are.

The Dark Tower

       This show has not come out yet but this is one that we all should be looking forward to. Stephen King worked on this series and it was amazing, now HBO has decided to pick up the series and do what they do best, create a fantastic show. This comic story has everything one would like from a Stephen King novel, except this is based off a comic book series which basically means Stephen King unleashed. The comic book world allows authors to let loose, they are reaching a different audience so they don't have to bother with what their "book audience" will think, and the creative sparks just take charge. Another great move by a television channel, this movement is growing, expect more of these to come.

The Punisher

         Fox decided that they can't sit on the back-burner when it comes to the superhero game, so they are in the process of seeking rights to the Punisher series, where they will either A create a fantastic show or B ruin one the biggest tough guys in the comic book world. This one is a 50/50 still, there are talks on production and when it'll be released and so forth. Let's just hope it comes out better than the movies, that's not too much to ask, is it?

Tentative Titles

         The two biggest tentative titles that you should be aware of is Under Locke and Key, this is another horror suspense drama that really packs a punch. It's the leading award winner comic series right after Fables, it's got everything one would expect from a solid comic book series, and being that the writers are going to be involved with the series, there can only come awesomeness from whatever tv station gives them a chance, this is one you have to keep an eye out for.

         Another big deal that is truly a brilliant move by Marvel is the creation of tv shows that will tie in to the Marvel movies and provide us with fillers while we wait for the main movies to come out. The importance of this is huge, this is a legit attempt to accomplish something that has never been accomplished well before. To have series that take place before, during, and after the movies is a fantastic concept. Out of all the heroes they have lined up for this new move, the Hulk is the biggest baddest one of them all, I think this is either going to be brilliant or it'll flop, either way I recommend you check it out, Marvel hasn't disappointed yet...well let's pretend Spiderman 3 didn't exist.

    There are a ton of shows that I didn't mention as well, Smallville is the obvious one I failed to mention, and one that deserves the last paragraph. We've had our ups and downs with this series, but in the end I think they accomplished what they meant to accomplish, which was to give a good summed up account of what Clark Kent went through prior to becoming Superman and learning to fly and so forth. With the series coming to a close, I would have to admit that this was a good series, it wasn't great, but it was good/enjoyable. I'm still disappointed that they didn't go all the way to him becoming superman, but such is life I guess. Before being to harsh with this show first remember that this is a CW show, obviously we can't expect a ton from it.
