What Matters Most In Life

Life is short, too short, we don't think about that much, it's not something we ponder on a daily basis but it is a very real concept that regardless of us acknowledging it or not, guides many aspects and decisions we make in our lives. The more one is aware of death and the eventuality of it coming the more one can truly begin to live. Being aware of death doesn't mean living scared of what tomorrow might bring or giving up on the world and doing nothing, being aware of death means living life to the fullest everyday, waking up and facing life head on with new expectations and the readiness to pursue your dreams. Being aware of how little time we all have on this Earth opens our eyes to the things that truly matter, the things that will make our lives grand and allow us to live a life worth re-living.

Family is the first thing that should pop into your head as we engage this topic, family is one of the most important aspects of life, it's a beautiful, complicated mess that brings rewards with it that nothing else in this world can bring. Maybe some of you don't have a biological family but have built your own group that serves as a family, people that love you and will forever be there for you, these people make life worth while. These are not the people that you don't have fights with, no, these people know you, they lived with you, they understand who you are and love you deeper than anyone else in the world loves you, so yes, there will be fights.

There is no true friendship either in family on between close friends that is ever truly real without at one point there being a sharing of hatred between you two. At one point a decision had to be made, hearts were hurt and prides were shattered, and both of you were thrown against a wall and told to make a decision, fight to make this friendship work or give up and break this friendship forever. In family 9/10 times you have no choice so you forgive the other person and through this process you grow closer, conflict brings people together, even personal conflict, but with friends outside of family this forgiveness isn't mandatory hence why when it is done both friends share a love and respect for one another that is unique in it's own way, a respect that will last a lifetime.

It is through truth that real relationships are made, this might seem like a simple concept but it isn't, most friends aren't honest with one another. You might have thought before "man, my best friend and I have never had a really big fight", yeah well, when honesty is not part of a friendship you definitely won't fight. Truth here is meant as one person being honest with the other about his or her own feelings, this is not about offending one another but being able to call each other out on your flaws, true friends help each other grow, that does not happen without a few fights along the way. This is the same concept about family, true growth comes from families helping each other grow, this is why one fights with parents a lot, because till you find a friend that call you out on your crap it is your parent's job to make sure you know you are not perfect, its not an easy job to say the least.

Look around yourself today and acknowledge the people that have been there for you during your life, guiding you, inspiring you, challenging you, helping you grow, and tell them thank you, thank them for being there, most people never get a chance to thank their close friends and family for always being there. It's not a malicious sense of non-gratitude that causes people to not be open, it's just a sense of not seeing what's in front of you, not recognizing the blessings within your own life. So hug your family and tell them you love them, phone your close friends and do the same, sit down with them and have heart to heart conversations about life, for life is short, and this, in the end of the day is what matters most, loving the people around you, and living in a lifestyle of love.

The Day After

Many of us did not have to work today, thus we are thankful, but here is a cheers for all those that had to work over the Holidays, may you have some rest this week and may your New Years' be a fun one. The 26th is always an interesting day, we're coming off the Holiday's high, family is still around making small talk, you still have tons of food to digest from the night before, and the need to recharge your energies becomes a striking reality, tis' a great day.

We are now officially on the last 6 days (counting today) of the year, and we at So Danca want to remember all the highs of the year, the good times, the bad times, events we all should remember, deaths we should keep in mind, births that struck us and so forth. So keep a look out for Wednesday's post, where we'll be making a "Top List of 2011", if you have any suggestions please email us at news@sodanca.com.

Be sure to make this day a relaxing one, one spent surrounded by those you love and those who love you, rest, sleep, and prepare yourself for Saturday's festivities for surely they will be big. If you happen to be planning the parties for this Saturday then we pray a special prayer for you, for that is never a fun job, nor is it an easy one, thus best of luck planning, preparing (emotionally and physically) for the times ahead. We hope you all have a fantastic week filled with laughter, joy, and plenty of rest.

The 25th was also a very good day for sports fans with the start of the NBA season and some very good football games going on as well, in fact this whole weekend we had a lot of good games with great sports highlights. We also had the release of "War Horse" and "The Darkest Hour" which have gotten very good reviews so far, specially "War Horse", personally I have not seen it yet, but I'll make a mention when I do. During the Holidays most things are closed and there isn't a lot one can do, sports and theaters though are always available, the benefits to these two options is the level of silence and calmness that can come from them, as where other events might cause your family to have issues taking them to a movie will not, in the end you get 2 hours of peace, and that is always a great thing.

So we hope you have a fantastic Monday, may it be a restful one, and may your New Year's preparations go smoothly.

Happy Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving has evolved in many ways since its creation but the main aspects of the holiday are still the same, thank God that they are! Food, tons of glorious food, seating with family, friends or loved ones, having the good times and bad times of family gatherings, the love, the fights, the reconciliation, the glorious amounts of food, Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays out there, even with everything good or bad that comes with it. Its the whole of the experience that counts, the act of being together, the freedom to eat as much as you want, and taking the time to be thankful for the blessings in life, that is the most important aspect of thanksgiving, right after family and food.

Taking time out of your busy schedule to think about life and be thankful for all the good things that are going on is paramount to living a healthy and happy life. There is nothing that brings more joy in life than being thankful, and nothing that laughs at the face of chaos more thoroughly than when you are thankful. Its important, and we have a holiday devoted to it, devoted to taking that time off, to raise awareness of it, and raising awareness to the good things in life is what we are all about. There is much to be thankful for, lets start with the simple one, LIFE! let's celebrate life, and love, and freedom, and glorious foods!

Some of you will not be able to be near family, some will have to work all day tomorrow, others will spend the holiday alone, though it is unfortunate that this is happening we wish you a fantastic thanksgiving, and raise a glass to you, for we have been there before, we have all experienced being alone during the holidays, having to work, or being far away, it is never an easy thing, and we wish you a happy thanksgiving, may you cling to happy memories and close friends, memories of times past are a great thing to be thankful for, and keep in mind that Christmas is right around the corner, so smile and be merry my friends!

So we hope you all have a glorious thanksgiving, may you eat tons of turkey and ham, and may it be a glorious occasion with much laughter and love. If you feel down at any point, just imagine what America would have been like had Benjamin Franklin had his way and the turkey had become our national bird, lol at that thought, for it truly is a funny one.
