Congrats Miami Heat!!! & "Brave" Review!!!

We got a chance to go watch the new Pixar movie "Brave" yesterday and we were pleasantly surprised by the different approach the movie took and how deep yet witty the story was. Before we start talking about the movie though we must first give a big shout out to all the Miami Heat fans out there who have stuck it out and shown once and for all that they do have a great team, a team that knows how to work together, a team deserving of the title. A lesson that can be learned from this team is that it doesn't matter how many stars you have in your roster, if they cannot work together then they will go nowhere, it was the Heat's teamwork that brought them this win, we look forward to the Heat's continued growth and wish all Heat fans good luck for next year.

Like many Pixar movies before it, "Brave" had a fun short-animation film prior to the movie starting. This year Pixar choose the short "La Luna", it is a superbly well done short film about generational gaps and a young boy becoming a man. When you watch this short film make sure to watch the detail around the three characters, from the boat to the moon, to even the waters surrounding them, it was a great work of art. Every year in the "academy awards" a short film is selected to win the award, we feel strongly that "La Luna" will be a strong contender, it has all the elements one would want from a short story, we loved it. But enough of all this, let's move on to the movie shall we.

Usually here is where we would start praising the movie and showering it with love, but we feel that we should start this review by saying that though this was a fun movie, that this was not what one would expect from Pixar. "Brave" is a great movie, it was entertaining, it was gorgeous, the story flowed well, but it wasn't groundbreaking, there wasn't that element of epicness you found in "UP", "Wall-e", "Toy Story" or "Finding Nemo", it was a great film but it wasn't a spectacular film like we have always gotten from Pixar in the past. In many ways this movie is your standard Disney princess movie with a "Brother Bear" element thrown in there for fun, the end result isn't bad but it isn't epic. With all that said let's talk about how fun this movie was.

"Brave" looks fantastic, it is astounding how far we have come when it comes to animation, from lighting to set design, "Brave" felt alive, the movie was quite a sight to see and it kept us engaged at all times. As we have talked about before this is Pixar's first time having a female main character and they did a really good job creating a character people could relate with, someone that is not perfect but lovable, they gave us a great main character with plenty of personality. The side characters were fantastic as well, the movie was packed with funny jokes and moments, the twins were hilarious and kept us entertained throughout the whole show as well, if you are a fan of animation and love Pixar's work then we recommend this movie hands down. Also a big shout out is deserved to all the voice actors that worked on this movie, they all did a spectacular job, top notch work for sure.

Rating this movie isn't an easy feat though, this movie was really fun and we recommend it for everyone, but when considering this movie's rating in light of all the other movies that Pixar has been a part of we can't give this movie more than a 3.5/5, it just doesn't stand up to the other projects that Pixar has been a part of, though this might seem like a low score it shouldn't be looked at as such for it was a great flick.  Due to the bar that Pixar has set upon themselves we can't help but be harsher with this film then we normally would. Putting the Pixar element aside this movie was a definite "must see" it will definitely be the best animated movie this summer, that you can count on. For the record, we did love this movie, so go watch it for sure.

Stay tuned for a special post on Sunday as we review "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", hopefully it'll be as fun as the book. We hope you have had a great week and pray that your weekend might be a safe one.

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards were packed with excitement this year, many thought that Russell Brand was going to have a mediocre performance this year but instead he surprised us all by not only doing a good job but being pretty funny as well in the process. A lot happened within this year's awards so for the sake of length we'll just be featuring the major moments that stood out to us, and finish with some critiques regarding the award. The first thing that must be said about yesterday's performance is that MTV spared no expense, the show was fantastic, the sets were awesome and the DJ did a fantastic job keeping the house alive, overall MTV set up a pretty good show, it wasn't perfect by a long shot but it was much better than many had previously speculated.

The show was preceded by an episode of Punk'd hosted by Ashton Kutcher, sort of his come back on set and taking things to a higher level thing. The two people that were Punk'd were Drake and Kim Kardashian, Drake's prank was perfectly done and got him brilliantly, Ashton caused an earthquake to occur within a parking garage, that was pretty brilliant and got a good laugh from everyone. Kim's prank was way too over the top, she knew something was wrong from the beginning so there was no freak out from her, just her being like "this is way to weird, something is going on". Ashton makes the claim in the end that "this is how it should be done" but really he failed hardcore at his second prank, so let us hope that in subsequent shows the hosts learn from Ashton's failure and pull off more believable pranks.

This year's MTV Awards was one of the first ones in a while that all the musical talent within it did a fantastic job, there is always one group who does a mediocre job or just doesn't "show up" when the pressure is on, but this year everyone came with their A game and the performances were fantastic. Fun. opened the show delivering a fantastic opener truly getting everyone pumped up and ready for the award show. Wiz Khalifa performed his newest single "work hard play hard" and also did a fantastic job, not his best work in my humble opinion, but a good song anyway. The highlight of this year's musical numbers had to me Johnny Depp joining "The Black Keys" on stage and showing us that he can still rock out. Johnny was presented with the "Generation Award" this year for all his years as an actor, and rightfully so, he has had a fantastic career for sure. This was by far the most epic part in the show, I recommend finding this on YouTube and taking a look, it was pretty awesome.

A good majority of the awards were well presented, you never know with MTV movie awards, sometimes you can't help but feel like their so called "democratic voting" is not so democratic, personally I think it isn't, but some disagree with me on this. Anyway, the most deserved awards were obviously all the awards given to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games, both of which deserved every award they got for sure, from best fight to best cast to best transformation, they deserved all the awards they got. The most genuine moment within the award show was that of Emma Stone as she received the "trailblazer" award, not only did she admit to not deserving the award but had a legit "truth" moment on stage where she let her heart be known, if she didn't deserve that award before, after her speech she definitely did, Emma, way to be awesome.

The lame awards were surprisingly all due to "Twilight", this isn't due to me having a bias against "Twilight" but the looking at the polls and seeing a race between "Harry Potter" and "Hunger Games" be overshadowed by a contestant that didn't have a strong presence in the polls to begin with, now that's just plain crazy, specially if you take twitter votes into consideration. Personally I think "Twilight" won best movie over "Harry Potter" only because another one is coming out and they need the publicity, Harry was way better than "Twilight" that isn't even a fight there. Another epic premature fail by MTV was naming "Project X" as an instant cult classic, what were they thinking here?, "our movie didn't make as much as it should have, let's make it a cult classic and people will go watch it".....lame MTV, super lame. And don't even start with "Twilight" deserving best kiss, maybe next year's award you could pull this card, but when you are competing against "Harry Potter" and "The Hunger Games" there is no way that "Twilight" deserved to win, this was a legit *facepalm* moment. The best part of them winning though was that fact that no one would go on stage to kiss Kristen Stewart, she kept calling different people to go and share a kiss with her and everyone was like "as if", it was pretty lolzy.

Last but not least we got to honor Christopher Nolan for his Batman series, which was well deserved for sure, in the process we got a very heartfelt Christian Bale giving a shout out to Heath Ledger, which was quite emotional. The show overall was pretty decent and a fun watch for sure, if you missed it then go and watch some of the highlights, not something I would personally watch again, it wasn't that good, but for what is was it was a job well done. We hope you all have a fantastic week and a fantastic Monday.

MIB 3 Does Not Disappoint: This Weekend's Must See Movie

Though I am generally against it, I decided to read some reviews prior to watching MIB 3, all of which spoke negatively about the movie. The critiques were hitting every point of elegance the movie had to offer, from acting, to humor, to action sequences and after reading said reviews I was expecting this movie to be wretched, I'm glad they were wrong. For those that thought that there weren't many parts in the movie that were funny I have no idea where your sense of humor was the day you watched this for it was funny, and cute, it was everything one could want from a MIB movie, this was everything we wanted from the second movie but never got. MIB 3 did not disappoint, it was fun and engaging, leaving us with a thirst for more.

Josh Brolin was brilliant in this movie as the young agent K, he breathed life into the character of K while at the same time keeping all the facial features and sound bites that the older K has gotten us used to. It is a tough performance to pull off, to pull off a young and spirited K while not making him cheesy and making it realistic, well as realistic as you can when it comes to a movie like this. I was surprised at how much I started to like the old K based on his younger self, after meeting the younger self you'll even start to like K from the first two movies, looking at him from a different light. So Josh did very well, more than expected and brought life into K's character, a job well done.

Tommy Lee Jones performed brilliantly as always, you can't expect anything else from the guy, he's a brilliant actor with 65+ titles under his belt, this was a great addition to an already impressive career. The toughest thing here was the transformation in the beginning of the movie from a hard headed, "I'm cold K" to a "things just got real K". There is a point in the beginning of the movie where you realize that K is not a bad guy, nor is he an angry guy, he's just a tired guy with a ton of secrets that would make anyone be less talkative and more to themselves. This portrayal is not an easy one to convey, so in keeping in mind that he had a small amount of screen time and conveyed this, one can make the assertion that Jones performed brilliantly.

Will Smith was awesome. There are so many ways one can complement Will Smith's performance in this movie, he was funny, engaging, he was young and cool, he was the Will we fell in love with in "MIB" and "Independence Day". (A side question does arise, how does Will Smith not age?) There is a good maturing to Will's character J in this movie as well, we go from standard good old J to "gotta make stuff happen J" and end with a more mature, more well rounded J, so we follow Will's character through a very real evolution that ties us even more to the character. Will Smith was everything we wanted him to be and more, bringing this movie to life in ways that only his swagger allows.

This movie also had a stellar villain, Jemaine Clement from the great comedy band "The Flight of the Conchords" played our illustrious villain, doing a fantastic job in the process. Out of all the villains in the MIB series Boris the animal might be one of my favorites, though the MIB 2 villain might have been hot she was not an intimidating villain, Boris in the other hand steals the show a bit just by being a straight up horrible being. Jemaine outdid himself here by keeping Boris funny while not lovable, thus retaining the very real evil element that his character needs to have. It was a great performance, one meriting acknowledgement.

Keep in mind that this movie should not be reviewed in the same way one would review "The Artist" or "Braveheart", this is an action comedy about a fictional alien crime fighting secret organization, meaning that for what it does and attempts to do it does well, so well that I would rated it a 4/5 without a second thought. This was a fun summer movie, this is everything one could want from a MIB movie. MIB movies are not meant to be super serious or super comical, they have their own way about them, their own swagger, if you will. MIB 3 is a great movie to go watch this weekend, you will be entertained for sure, so grab some friends or family, buy some popcorn and have a good time.

We hope you have had a fantastic week and pray that you might have a safe weekend,

Tom Hanks is Disney, Ashton is Jobs, Sherlock is Awesome

If you've been reading us for a while you know that we didn't like the new Dr. Pepper 10 commercial, the "for men only" soda, we listed it on the "top ten most obnoxious ads" and there it has remained. Some of us got the chance to try out this beverage the other day and came up with a striking revelation, Dr. Pepper 10 which should have 10 manly calories actually has 20 calories. This brings up a few points and makes sense of their advertising. The first point being that the name makes no sense then, the can is advertised in the commercial as having 10 calories, Dr. Pepper 10, therefore one would assume that the beverage would only have 10 calories not 20, but no uproar has been made about this which brings up a separate point, their targeted audience. Here is the message Dr. Pepper is sending, either that guys are bad at math, guys are not observant, or that guys just don't care, we'll drink whatever is in front of us, which would mean that Dr. Pepper is saying that girls would cause an uproar about this and therefore they targeted the men instead. Bottom line is, Dr. Pepper 10 is not only sexist but also an insult to all men out there, anyway, just thought we would fill you in. On to updates:

The Dark Knight Rises Rating Issues

As it turns out the last Nolan Batman will most likely be rated "R" due to a recent rating of the project and the inability to attain a PG13 rating. Depending on who you are this could either be a good thing or a bad thing, for the movie goer this is most certainly a good thing, it means the movie will  push the limits within the franchise and give us something new, something we all want, but obviously the movie would not profit as much while in theaters due to the amount of people that won't be able to go watch it. We must remember when it comes to these type of movies that the fan base is spread out and though sometimes a better movie could be made if it were rated "R" (think Hunger Games) that the PG13 rating ends up helping the production of more movies due to good revenue, specially when it comes to these type of titles. It will be interesting to see how Nolan will react to this, if he will drop scenes from the movie or just accept the rating and move forward. We would understand if he choose to drop to a PG13 rating, but still, there is a hope that he won't.

Tom Hanks To Play Walt Disney

Though this is a rumor thus far, we do have some pretty serious evidence that Disney has signed up Tom Hanks to play the part of Walt Disney in their upcoming adaptation of the creation of "Mary Poppins" named "Mr. Banks". The movie will center around Walt Disney attempting to get the story of "Mary Poppins" from her writer and getting it made into a big picture. There is a darker element involved, it turns out the original writer did not enjoy the end result and thought the cartoons within the movie looked childish, so she vows never to work with Disney again, thus this is a story of Walt convincing her to share the story with the world and later reconciling with her after the movie is made and she is angry. The project is just getting under way, there are rumors going around that Emma Thompson and Meryl Streep are both thinking about signing on to the project. We'll let you know more as soon as we find out more.

  Ashton Controversy

This was announced last week and an uproar was heard around the world, the fact that Ashton Kutcher will be playing Steve Jobs in the upcoming movie about Job's life. Originally we weren't going to cover this story for though Ashton is not a fantastic actor he is not the worst actor out there so we thought the uproar was a slight exaggeration. If you think about it there are a ton of worse actors to choose from, the issue that we want to bring up here is not why people don't like this whole deal about Ashton playing Jobs but why do people hate Ashton so much? It makes no sense, the guy was an icon for a while, he was in a few really good (Butterfly Effect) and funny movies (Take your pic), yes he has been in a lot of bad movies lately but he does have potential, which is more than we can say for a lot of other actors out there. Thus with the right motivation, we think this project might even come out to be ok, we say give Ashton a chance.

  Sherlock

There is something about good television that should never be ignored, and Sherlock is one of those shows that has gone under the radar for long enough. If you own Netflix the first three episodes are on instant stream, they are each about an hour long and are awesome. This depiction of the Sherlock universe is what the movie should have been like, due to length of episodes it does kind of fell like you are watching a movie when seeing the series, a really good movie rendition of the famed book. The series is only 6 episodes long and has not been signed on for new projects as of yet, though here is a series that you should not miss. From the cast, to the dialogue, to how it was shoot, the whole series was a masterpiece, it is too bad that it did not reach the states with as much clamor as it did in England. Knowing how Hollywood works we would recommend you watch this series before Hollywood makes an "American" rendition of it, it seems like a habit as of late for there to be an "American" version of British shows, here is one we hope never gets re-made. Anyway, do check it out, it is definitely worth watching.

Wednesday has finally come upon us, take a deep breath the weekend is close at hand, we hope this week ends in a good note for you and pray for safety to all,
