Top 5 Supernatural Shows You Must Watch

We are living under interesting times where vampires, werewolves and zombies are the "in" thing to either have movies based on or TV shows based on, this can be a really good thing or a really bad thing depending on who is in charge of production for each show or movie. There are a ton of good TV shows out there that deal with the supernatural but we decided to narrow this post to the top 5 shows that deal with either zombies, werewolves and vampires. These are our picks for best written, produced, cast and directed out of all the other shows out there. Keep in mind that many of these shows are not for children, these are mature themes and thus the shows are generally geared towards a more mature audience.

True Blood

We have Charlaine Harris to thank for this brilliant series as she wrote all the books in this series. There was fear among many of her fans as the announcement was made that the books were going to be made into a TV series, but after the first season everyone's fears were put to rest for this series is fantastic. It is true that the series has followed the book loosely at some points and I recommend you read the books, but the TV show is fantastic as well. The show's brilliant cast deserves a shout out here, specifically Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard and Sam Trammell, for their continued fantastic performance. The series has continued to flourish attracting more and more fans as the seasons go on, this is a sure win when it comes to vampire shows.

  The Vampire Diaries

This show is the best alternative to "True Blood" out there, though "True Blood" is a great series it is designed for a more mature audience having mature themes surround almost every episode, "The Vampire Diaries" shines here in that it keeps some mature content but does not go overboard with it, they focus a bit more on character progression and storyline versus shock factor and nudity. This show is a sure fit for anyone that likes the vampire theme but does not like the shock factor you find in "True Blood". Here is another show where the main cast shines, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and the great Ian Somerhalder bring this series to life. In the end though the success of this series is due to the writing talents of both Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson who have brought this series to life and guided it since its beginning. If too much gore is not your bag then this is the show for you.

   Being Human

There is a disclaimer that needs to be made here, "Being Human" is a great show as long as you're talking about the UK version of the show, the US version is alright, but it really fails hardcore when you compare it to the original UK release. The show follows three flatmates who randomly found themselves living together, a female ghost, a male werewolf and a male vampire and the adventures that they go through while living together. The British version of the show is raw and fun, it is brilliantly written and cast, its everything you would expect from this show, but the American version just tries too hard on making the show...well...more "American", it takes away from some of the show's stronger points. Both shows are available on Netflix so check it out yourselves and let me know if you disagree.

    The Walking Dead

"The Walking Dead" has not disappointed yet the first two seasons were brilliant and both followed the comics rather well. This is by far the best zombie TV series ever made to date, there isn't even a competition when it comes to the theme. This series is based off of the best zombie comic-book series ever written, titled just like the series "The Walking Dead" it is a great read, if you are a fan of the series or the genre, reading this series is highly recommended. This is another series that is brought to life by a fantastic cast of actors, Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies all deserve mad props for their continued performance on this show. This is a series about zombies so there will be strong themes throughout it, be forewarned, but it is a great series. It's nice to have a series based on a previous work that follows that work almost to a T.

   Teen Wolf

This is definitely the weakest title within this article, but it is the only successful werewolf TV show we have right now. This show is geared towards a younger audience (late teens) and isn't as well written as the series we've previously mentioned above, but it is still a really fun series. Starting up it was a bit slow and many times you will find yourself cringing from the cheese in some episodes, but again it merits being mentioned for it is the best werewolf centered TV show in the market right now. This is still a young show and this next season has already showed great promise, so maybe as the show matures we will see it become better and better, or so one can hope. Give this show a shot, its a fun one.

And there you have it, there are a lot of other shows that could be included within this list, but these 5 are definitely the best in the market right now. We hope you had a fantastic weekend and pray that this week might be a good one.

  Love from your humble blogger,
